About the Native Client
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Native Client is an application that allows you to log
in to a Secure Global Desktop server and display your webtop.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Logging in to a Secure Global Desktop server
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Before you can access your webtop, you need to log in to a
Secure Global Desktop server.

1 To start the Native Client, click Start, Programs,
Secure Global Desktop, Sun Secure Global Desktop Native Client.

2 Type the URL for a Secure Global Desktop server.
The URL usually has the form http://server/tarantella.
Your Secure Global Desktop Administrator can tell you which URL to use.

3 Type your username and password for the Secure Global Desktop server.
Your Secure Global Desktop Administrator can tell you which username
   and password to use.

Using a proxy server
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Your Secure Global Desktop Administrator may advise you to log in to a
to Secure Global Desktop server using a proxy server. A proxy server acts
as an intermediary between your internal network (intranet) and the
Internet, offering increased security and speed.

1 Click Webtop, Options.

2 Under Proxy servers, select one or more proxy server types.
Your Secure Global Desktop Administrator will tell you what to use.

3 For each proxy server type selected, type:

   - the proxy server name in the Address box,
     for example, chicago.indigo-insurance.com

   - the port number in the Port box, for example, 8080

Your Secure Global Desktop Administrator may also give you a list of web
addresses which do not need to be accessed through the proxy server.
Type these exceptions in the box labeled "Do not use proxy server for
addresses beginning with".

If the proxy server has been set up to require authentication, the
Proxy Authentication dialog box displays after you enter your
Secure Global Desktop login details. Type your username and password for
the proxy server and click OK.

Your proxy server authentication details are cached (stored) for as long
as you have the Native Client open. When you close the
Native Client, the cached details are deleted. The next
time you use the Native Client, you have to enter your
proxy server authentication details again

Online documentation
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
You can get further information on Secure Global Desktop once you've
logged in to Secure Global Desktop.

You should read Using Your Webtop, to discover everything you need to
know about your webtop. If you can't see the Using Your Webtop link on
your webtop, contact your Secure Global Desktop Administrator.

Using the Native Client
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Choosing how the webtop displays
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Native Client allows you to control how your webtop
displays:

1 Click Webtop, Options.

2 Select one of the Webtop options:

   - Always show
The list of applications is always on display in the webtop window.

   - Auto hide
The list of applications only displays in the webtop window when you
move your mouse pointer over the area where the list normally
     displays.

   - Show in system tray
Displays Secure Global Desktop as an icon in the Windows system tray
     instead of displaying a webtop.

Using the Secure Global Desktop system tray icon
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you use the Show in system tray option, a Secure Global Desktop icon
displays in the Windows system tray. The icon:

   - is colored when you are logged in;

   - displays a cog when you are launching an application; and

   - is grayed out when you are logged out.

You click the Secure Global Desktop icon to see the list of applications
you can run. You right-mouse click the icon to access the
Native Client menu options.

Choosing which web browser is used to view web documents
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Native Client uses a web browser to display web
documents (including Secure Global Desktop help documents such as
"Using Your Webtop"). You can either use the web browser on your computer
or a browser configured by a Secure Global Desktop Administrator on the
server.

1 Click Webtop, Options.

2 Select one of the Document options. If in doubt, select Automatic and
let the Native Client decide which browser to use.

Suspending all resumable applications
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Native Client lets you suspend all the resumable
applications you have running. This closes the windows for each of these
applications and displays a cog on the application icon on your webtop.

To suspend all resumable applications, click Suspend All on the Webtop
menu.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Logging out of Secure Global Desktop
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
To log out of Secure Global Desktop, click Log Out on the Webtop menu.
Click OK when prompted for confirmation.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Uninstalling the Native Client
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

1 Click Start, Settings, Control Panel.

2 Double-click Add/Remove Programs.

3 Select Tarantella Native Client and click Change/Remove.
